APA essay format is usually used for writing social papers. According to this format you should double-space your paper and use Times New Roman font. All pages should be numbered and there should be a header at the top of each page.
According to APA essay format you should include the following parts to your paper: the title page, abstract, main body with several paragraphs, conclusion and references. You may search in the Internet for APA outline sample. You may also read essay samples that are written in APA format.
It will take not much time to create a title page but still you should be attentive in order to avoid errors. In the middle of the page place the title of your paper. It should not be too lengthy and take no more than 12 words. Do not write abbreviations in the title. After the title you should write your name, the full name of your instructor and your university data (group number, university name and location etc).
You should start an abstract from a new page. Write the word “Abstract” centered at the top of the page. In the abstract section you should point out the topic of your research, the research question, methods that you are going to use in your essay. You should also include results of your research and the conclusions. Do not use unnecessary sentences or empty words in the abstract. Use only the most important and relevant sentences. Pay attention to the length of the abstract. It should be no longer than 250 words.
APA essay format also has special rules in providing in-text citations, footnotes, reference list and additional material. If you use in the text of your essay direct quotes, so you should write author’s last name and the year of book issue and the page number where the given citation is placed. If you provide a long citation that is longer than 40 words, you should write it from a new line and use no citation marks. If you just paraphrase somebody’s words, you may write only the author’s name and the year of publication of the book.
If you cite the book that is compiled by two authors, you should write the names of both authors. If you cite the issue that has three or five authors, you should write the surnames of all writers. But if you cite the same book for the second time, write only the first writer’s surname and a phrase “et al.” that means and others. The book that is compiled by 6 authors should also be referenced with the first author’s name and phrase “et al.”
If you want to cite a source but you do not know its author, just write the title or the first few words from the citation. The title of the book should be italicized. The title of the article or chapter should be used in quotation marks.
